Fridays...I love them

I have quite a few requests that I'm working on at the moment. I spent 6 hours yesterday drawing a porch for a house drawing. I've also got a couple to work on, a couple of kids, and some birds and cats...not to mention I really really want to start working on stuff that's holiday specific so I can make prints and have those available to purchase on my website or over on I'm hoping to have all of the time in the world to work on my drawings this weekend, however I have to make a trip over to the Coppell Farmer's Market tomorrow morning to help support my friend Tania whose selling diaper cakes there. (Curious Cake know you want one.)
Anyway. Fridays are good. I think I like them more now because it's the only day of the week I'm allowed to wear jeans at work. I used to work a job where jeans was everyday- so now it makes me apreciate that one day of the week so much more.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.

It's a Monday

Holy crafting craziness batman! I went to the Spring Bash by Dallas Etsy on Saturday and now the creative juices are flowing so fast that I can't sit still. Nor do I want to be here at my 8-5 job right now because I'd rather be home knitting, or drawing, or sewing (yes you saw that right! Mom- I might need your spare sewing machine!)

Anyway- After the sad sad dragon from last week I started a new sketchbook pro drawing of some pigs. We'll see how it turns out. But right now, I'm in the "draw" drawing mood, meaning pencil and some good old white paper! I was just about to get started drawing some birds when I got a request in early this morning!!! Yeah babies!!! So anyway, I'll post that later when it's been approved (and actually completed, since I'm totally jumping the gun here).

Seriously, those folks over at are brilliant! I loved the show and wish I was a gazillionaire so I could have bought everything from every booth. I snagged up enough business cards that hopefully I'll be able to buy from them this holiday season for all of my friends and family. I did buy a neclace from the folks at it's a super cute pinup girl that says "Farm Girl" and has a tractor charm. LOVE IT!

Anyway, once I start crafting up ANYTHING, I'll post it here. And trust me, the minute I get my own etsy page you all will be the first ones to know.

happy crafting!!!

Sketchbook Pro Dragon...sad sad attempt

Such a sad attempt. It looked great when it was just an outline...I don't like it. But I've been working on it for a few days here and there for the last three weeks, and have just grown tired of it. I just want to be done with it already, so I decided to say "I'm done!"...Anyway.

I was going to add a little village and people running from the fires, but the closer I got to doing all of that, the more I was like "". So it didn't get done. And as I was working on the dragon, I began to realize that the color scheme I picked resembled one of my favorite childhood movies "Pete's Dragon"...and that just won't do.

Just know that this dragon is sad. No, he really is. He's bored and lonely, so he's just shooting fire where ever his heart desires. It's a sad life- that of a dragon. But they are lovely creatures, even if they only live in imaginations...

Friday Update for the first week of May

I'm all sorts of Epic Failing over here in the drawing department. I'm half asleep today, but really want to continue working on one piece that I started at the beginning of the week in Sketchbook Pro...but, like I said, I'm half asleep- and that usually leads to creative-no-nos. So I may wait until I can wake up just a bit more (long night last night, birthday parties with dancing dragons and way too much food-I think I just got my idea for my next drawing).

Anyway. I haven't put pencil to paper this week, other than to write myself a sticky note that reads "Be more creative"...

I really have to plan out my business a little better. I so often forget that drawings make good Mother's Day gifts, until someone asks me about them...the week before mother's day. I wish I would have thought about it sooner and made a GIANT bulletin on my website or something.

Do drawings make good Father's Day gifts??? I just don't know. But if you want a drawing for Father's Day (for that special dad in your life)- send me an email so I can get started. (I would love to draw something for you special moms too- but I'm affraid with 2 days before that event, they won't get done...if you need a late Mother's Day present and think a drawing would be awesome- send me an email LOL. It's pimp my business day. Why not? I was peer pressured into making a fan page for A Shade Better Than Stick Figures TM on Facebook yesterday...Oye! So if you're on facebook, you should totally look up "A Shade Better Than Stick Figures TM" and become a fan! Totally.

Did I mention I'm still half asleep?

Have a great Mother's day to all of you Mother's/Grandmother's/Great Grandmothers and soon to be mother's!

Curious Cake Shoppe anyone???

Do you have a pregnant friend? Co-worker? Spouse? Baby Shower for a stranger that you have to go to? Or just in general like giving presents to people who might be or are pregnant?

Then you will love !!

A very dear friend of mine has taken it upon herself to create her very own Diaper Cake "Bakery" online! She's very talented (as the images on her site will show you). Each of her diaper cakes are made with love! Seriously, I'm considering getting pregnant just so someone will give me a diaper cake (ok, I'm totally kidding...that would be like buying a VW Routon because of all of the room it has for kids...not happening). But yeah, I'm totally planning on snagging some of these (or creating my own with the owner) for a few friends that I know who are expecting. She's been making these for awhile, and I'm so glad that she now has her website!!!! Please- stop buy her site , if for no other reason than to just look. I promise you, you'll fall in love and want to give her hand made gifts to everyone you know (make sure to check out the "Bakery Bites" section for some really cute stuff that isn't all necessarily for babies!!!)!

I've seen these cakes in real life, and they are just as stunning as they are in the pictures.

Anyway- Go to her site...right now!!!!

GO NOW! What are you waiting for???
