Sami- 2009

Title: "Sami"

Date Began: 03/25/09

Date Completed: 03/25/09

Media: 2B, and 6B pencil on white inkjet printer paper

Description: This is my high school art teachers daughter. I drew a picture of her back in 2004 when she was a baby. You can see that picture in my gallery(or here). He recently sent me updated pictures of her, so I thought I would take the time to draw an updated picture for him. He did after all teach me almost everything I know about art.

"Bel Air" -Picture posted now!

Title: "BelAir"
Date Began: 03/20/09
Date Completed: 03/24/09
Media: HB, B, 2B, 4B pencil on white inkjet printer paper
Size: 8 1/2" x 11"
Description: It's a car.
I've begun to realize that just because I can draw almost anything, or push myself to draw almost anything, doesn't mean that I have to. I love drawing people. I enjoy drawing animals. Landscapes are challenging. I hate drawing cars. HATE drawing cars. I love photographs of cars, particularly old cars...and even those that are artfully photographed. But to draw one. I hate it. So this is probably going to be my last car drawing post.
I think my hatred for the vehicles, stems from my uninterest in straight lines, and the need to use a ruler. I hate rulers. I've got a house to attempt to draw this week/next week and I'm kind of dreading it now that I've come to this realization.

On a completely unrelated note, I just watched Twilight at work! HA! (on my ipod) Oh yeah, and I just found out today that I'm going to Sea World this weekend!!!! Woo Hoo!!! I've never been, and can't quite fathom exactly how large a whale is. I'm very excited.

Fridays were meant for drawing

Every Friday, never fails, around 6am I want to start drawing. So that's what I'll be doing today.
I'm working on a car drawing. It's a picture that I've been meaning to get to since January 1st. A red and white Bel Air. They are actually one of my favorite classic cars-the Bel Air.

Anyway, on an unrelated note- Twilight comes out on DVD tonight at midnight. Yes, I'm reverting back to my 14 year old self and plan on being somewhere at midnight to purchase my 2 disc DVD copy...I also plan on purchasing it on iTunes so I can have it on my ipod to carry with me everywhere- because I never know when I might be in the mood for some Twilight.

"Grandpa Wells"

Title: "Grandpa Wells"
Date Began: 03/10/09
Date Completed: 03/16/09
Media: B, 2B, 4B on white inkjet printer paper
Size: 8 1/2" x 11"
Description: My aunt's picture from the previous post, inspired a co-worker of mine. She found an old picture of her grandpa that she wanted me to draw. I had some fun with this because it was a person and a car all in one drawing. I kind of liked it. There may be another one similar to this in my future, at least in the sense that there will be a person and a vehicle in one drawing together. It may be awhile before I get to it though. Lots of projects to start and finish, and some to just finish.

Drawing for my aunt

Title: I don't have a title for this drawing. Mainly because I forgot where I am in the "untitled #" sequence and don't have time to look it up right now

Date Began: 03/09/09

Date Completed: 03/10/09

Media: hb, b, 2b, 4b, 6b pencil on white inkjet printer paper

Size: 8 1/2" x 11"

Description: Seriously, I already tried to post this once, and blogger hijacked my entire blog- so I'm not sure if this is going to work or not.

My aunt gave me a really old, yet beautiful photograph to draw of her inlaws. Drawing this made me want to dig out all of my grandma's old black and white photos and draw all of them.

Monday Update

Like I said on Friday- here's the update:

-I have a drawing I will start on tonight for my aunt, it should be done in the next few days- I'll post it when it gets approved.
-I have one car drawing started (from the drag race and car show that the "El Camino" picture was taken from)- that I need to finish up...after that one is done, I have about 8 other pictures from that same car show I want to draw.
-I need to finish Soy MLK for my friend's birthday which is quickly approaching.
-I want to draw a picture of my friends newborn baby soon, so I'll have to get the right picture to draw from for that (actually I already know which one I'm going to use, I just need her permission).

As you can tell...no pictures yet! AAAAHHHH, I hate posting when I don't have something to show.

Anyway- I'll get some stuff worked out and have something interesting to post (picture-wise) later this week- hopefully.

El Camino

Title: "El Camino"
Date Began: 3/3/09
Date Completed: 3/3/09
Media: HB, 2B, 4B, 6B pencil on white ink jet printer paper
Size: 8 1/2" x 11"
Description: Gonzo and I went to a classic car show and drag race last weekend. There was this awesomely loud, green, El Camino lined up to race- Gonzo took it's picture. He took a lot of pictures that day.

I need to practice on drawing cars, as I'm finding I have a hard time drawing wheels, metal objects, and reflections in glass/paint/metal/etc.
Anyway. I'm taking the day off from work today to just take a day off. Doing a little laundry, updating the website, going to lunch with friends...a good relaxing day.

I'll give you an update next week as to what is left on the long list of drawings/projects to do.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Mandalas

Title: "Triple Mandala"
Date Began: 02/27/09
Date Completed: 02/27/09
Media: Prismacolor colored Pencil on Strathmore Black Art Paper
Size: 12" x 12"
Description: My scanner isn't big enough to get all of the image- but I kind of like how it looks here. I get the bug to draw something every once in awhile, and this is what happened on Friday.

Upon finding my Black Art Paper pad, I found almost all of the Mandalas that I have done since 2006.
I found this next one in that stack.

Description: I call it the "muted mandala" because of the light tone of the colors. It's also 12" x 12" on the same paper...also with Prismacolor colored Pencils, but I don't remember the exact date I began it or completed it...I just know that it was sometime in 2007
